Russian transcription: layout and output

By the Potok teamUpdated ~2 min read

Potok handles Russian transcription with a model built for Russian speech, not the general model used for the other languages. The text comes back in the chat or as a file and can be saved in 6 formats. Files up to 2 GB are accepted. No published error rate applies, so none is quoted.

Key facts

  • Published figures for the general model do not apply to Russian, so this page gives no error rate.
  • The 6 export formats are TXT, MD, DOCX, PDF, SRT and VTT.
  • Speaker labels are numbers, and timestamps appear only when you switch them on.
  • Russian text uses the Cyrillic alphabet, and the letter yo is often written as plain ye in everyday texts.

What a transcript looks like

Sample sentence in Russian
[00:00] Speaker 1: Давайте начнём встречу. Сначала разберём итоги прошлой недели, потом спланируем следующие шаги.

Meaning in English: Let's start the meeting. First, we'll review last week's results, then plan the next steps.

Written by us to show the script and the layout of a transcript. It is not the output of the recognition engine.

Russian (Русский)RecommendedNo published figureA model built for Russian speech is used for this language, so the published figures for other models do not apply.

These numbers come from published tests by other people, not from tests by Potok. Your own audio, with its noise, accents and microphone, will differ.

How to do it

  1. Send the recording. In @potok_now_bot post audio, a video, a forwarded voice message or a YouTube link.
  2. Know where the line is. Up to 2 GB per file; larger ones use the Upload button of the mini app.
  3. Decide on labels. Enable them for a talk with several people so every turn starts under its own number.
  4. Wait for the reply. A short result lands in the chat as text, a long one as a file.
  5. Review proper nouns. Check surnames, company names and acronyms against your notes.
  6. Export for the purpose. DOCX or PDF to share, SRT or VTT for video captions.

Frequently asked questions

Why is no error rate given for Russian?

Russian uses a separate model, and published figures for the general model do not describe it.

What does a Russian transcript look like?

Plain Russian text in paragraphs by speaker, with times before them if enabled.

Which formats can I export?

Six are offered: TXT, MD, DOCX, PDF for reading, and SRT and VTT for captions.

Is the desktop dictation app the same thing?

No. The separate desktop app dictates into other programs and also recognises Russian, while this page is about the Telegram bot.

Does it translate Russian speech?

No. The text is written in Russian, as it was spoken in the recording.
