Key facts

  • The published range for French is 5.3 to 6.31 word error rate, measured by others on large-v3.
  • Three sources agree on a low result, which is why French has no warning.
  • Many French words sound the same but are written differently, so grammar endings are the typical remaining mistakes.
  • The text is returned in French and is not translated.

What a transcript looks like

Sample sentence in French
[00:00] Speaker 1: Commençons la réunion. D'abord, nous passerons en revue les résultats de la semaine dernière, puis nous planifierons les prochaines étapes.

Meaning in English: Let's start the meeting. First, we'll review last week's results, then plan the next steps.

How to do it

  1. Hand over the audio. Send your French recording to @potok_now_bot, as a voice message, file, video or YouTube link.
  2. Big file route. Up to 2 GB can be attached; the Upload button of the mini app suits very long recordings.
  3. Choose labels. For an interview, enable speaker labels and timestamps so each turn is marked.
  4. Read for agreement. Check endings such as plural and past participle forms, where the sound gives no clue.
  5. Check accents and apostrophes. Look at é, è, ê, ç and elisions like l'homme.
  6. Export. TXT, MD, DOCX and PDF for documents; SRT and VTT for French subtitles.

Frequently asked questions

How good is French transcription?

Published tests of the large-v3 model give a word error rate of 5.3 to 6.31 for French. Other groups measured these numbers, not us.

Why is it a range?

Different test sets and text rules give slightly different results, so we show the published range.

No. They are labelled Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on.
