Webex recording to text

By the Potok teamUpdated ~2 min read

To turn a Webex recording into text, download it and send the file to the Potok bot on Telegram. Webex recordings can be downloaded from the Webex site after the meeting, and the official help describes where. Files up to 2 GB work, and the transcript exports as TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT or VTT.

Key facts

  • The recording becomes available after the meeting ends, not during it.
  • Access depends on your role in the meeting and your organization's settings.
  • A meeting with several speakers gains the most from numbered speaker labels.
  • Long webinars come back as a file, and timestamps mark where each topic starts.

How to do it

  1. Wait for the meeting to finish. Recordings appear on the Webex site after the session ends.
  2. Download from the site. Sign in to the Webex site and use its download option. Follow the official help if the button is not where you expect.
  3. Check the size. A long webinar can be large. For a file near 2 GB, use the Upload button of the mini app.
  4. Send to the bot. Open @potok_now_bot in Telegram and attach the file.
  5. Pick labels and export. Turn on labels for a discussion, then export DOCX for notes or SRT for captions.

What the result looks like

Example: the opening of a webinar

[00:00] Speaker 1: Welcome, everyone, we will start with a short demo.

[00:05] Speaker 1: Questions go in the chat, and I will answer them at the end.

[00:11] Speaker 2: Thanks, and please share the slides afterwards.
