Potok transcribes Russian speech; this site has been translated into English for convenience.
The Claude mobile apps (iOS, Android) have built-in dictation in 11 languages, including Russian: a microphone icon in the chat input field. On a Mac there is dictation for the computer too: the Quick Entry feature with Caps Lock and real-time speech recognition, which needs macOS 14 or newer. On Windows, Linux and the web, system dictation of the OS or the Potok app (potok.now) can dictate text for you.
Want to dictate a message to Claude by voice instead of typing it by hand? A similar question is covered for Claude Code and for ChatGPT. Here we look specifically at the web version and the Claude apps. The method depends on where you opened Claude: on a phone, on a Mac or on a Windows computer.
Ways to dictate text in Claude
The Claude mobile apps for iOS and Android have built-in dictation: on the right of the chat input field there is a microphone icon. On first use you need to choose the recognition language. There are 11 languages in all, including Russian, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish and Ukrainian.
On a Mac you can dictate from the computer too: the Quick Entry feature opens an input window with a double press of Option, and the Caps Lock key turns on dictation with real-time speech recognition. It needs macOS 14 or newer.
A separate feature is Voice mode. It is not dictation but a full voice conversation with Claude, in which Claude itself also answers by voice and listens for your next line. Voice mode is available on iOS, Android, in the desktop app and on the web, but for the ordinary task of dictating the text of a message and sending it as usual, dictation is the right choice, not the conversation mode.
For the desktop app on Windows, for Linux and for the web version in the browser, Anthropic does not describe built-in dictation separately. Here you can dictate text into the input field with the system dictation of the operating system or with the Potok app. It inserts dictated text into the active field with a hotkey, regardless of which app or site it is.
Long texts and line breaks
The help says nothing separately about limits on length or the number of line breaks in Claude's built-in dictation. All that is known is that Voice mode is built quite differently from dictation: it is a conversation, not a recording of one long message.
Potok records text while the hotkey is held down and suits long messages in one press. It recognizes about 900 characters per minute, places punctuation and capital letters itself, and works the same with Russian text and with English terms inside one message, which is often needed when describing code or a task in detail in Claude.

Limits that cannot be worked around
Quick Entry on a Mac works only from macOS 14 on; older system versions do not have this feature. The Claude help describes built-in dictation only for the mobile apps and for the Mac; it says nothing separately about the desktop app on Windows or about Linux.
Potok is a cloud service, recognition runs on servers in Russia, and it does not work without the internet. It has no offline mode and no voice commands, and 2500 words per week are free on one device. For someone who dictates long messages into Claude all day, this limit may not be enough.
Frequently asked questions
According to Claude, dictation in the mobile apps is currently available in 11 languages: English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Ukrainian.
Dictation simply turns speech into text in the input field. Voice mode is a full voice conversation: Claude answers by voice and listens for your next line. Voice mode is available on iOS, Android, in the desktop app and on the web.
Voice input converts speech to text on the fly: the user speaks, and the program transcribes the sound with speech recognition technology (ASR) and inserts the resulting text into the active field, such as email, a messenger or a document. In Potok it works through a hotkey: hold it, speak, release, and the text is inserted.
Potok states about 900 characters per minute by voice versus about 200 when typing, roughly 4 times faster. This is the product's own estimate, not an independent measurement.
Built-in system tools (Win+H in Windows, Dictation in macOS, Voice Typing in Google Docs, Gboard on Android), voice browser extensions, and specialized desktop and web services (Potok and similar) that work on top of any app via a hotkey.
Any microphone the system sees as a recording device will do. In Potok you choose it in the app settings or in the tray icon menu; system access to the microphone is required.
