TikTok video to text

By the Potok teamUpdated ~2 min read

To turn a TikTok video into text, the video must be saved as a file before it is transcribed, and you must have the right to use it. Send that file to the Potok bot on Telegram, which does not take TikTok links. Files up to 2 GB work, and you can export TXT, DOCX, SRT or VTT.

Key facts

  • The clip has to exist as a video file on your device before the bot can read it.
  • The bot does not take TikTok links, so a copied address will not work.
  • Your own clips are the clearest case, and for anyone else's video you need the owner's permission.
  • Short videos give short text that comes back in the chat.

How to do it

  1. Confirm the rights. Use your own video, or one whose owner agreed to its use. Respect the rights of the video owner.
  2. Get the video as a file. Use the original file from your camera or editing app. Check the official help for any export option in the app.
  3. Send it to the bot. Open @potok_now_bot in Telegram and attach the video.
  4. Wait for the text. Because clips are short, the transcript usually appears as a chat message.
  5. Make captions. Export SRT or VTT and use the file to add subtitles in your editor.

What the result looks like

Example: narration from a short recipe clip

[00:00] Speaker 1: Quick pasta in ten minutes, here is how.

[00:04] Speaker 1: Boil the water, add salt and the noodles.

[00:09] Speaker 1: Toss with butter and a bit of cheese.
